Nurturing Bright Futures: Back-to-School Event in Kenya

Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.

Refugee girls attending a back to school event

A fun day of games, food, learning and making friends.

Together the AGHF girls grow as they attend events organized to help them in variety of ways. Teamwork, self-confidence, peer and mentor support are some of the life-skills developed.

What do all the AGHF girls have in common?

They are all fulfilling their dreams of education on AGHF full scholarships. Also these girls have a common bond as they are all orphans and refugees struggling to overcome trauma and poverty.

This back to school event is a way for the girls to meet others who are facing some of the same challenges. This event helps them to unite, find friends in their same situation, and strengthen each other.

Event Overview:

On August 26, 2024, African Girls Hope Foundation (AGHF) held a large back to school event in Nairobi, Kenya.

The event was attended by:

  • 112 girls on AGHF full scholarship

  • 7 adult volunteers

  • 4 speakers

  • 3 adult mentors (our AGHF staff in Kenya)

Workshops:

During the back to school event the mentors and speakers talked to the girls about a variety of challenging topics. The girls were guided by the speakers in both discussions and activities that were focused on nurturing each girl's personal growth.

Activities:

The girls enjoyed a variety of games and team-building activities between the sessions. These activities are huge in helping the girls get to know each other. This event creates a safe place where they can ask questions and be themselves. The girls left the event feeling more confident and ready to face the various challenges that will come during the school semester.

We thank you for your donations!

The AGHF board and staff are grateful for the support from the many donations that made this event happen.  The supplies, food, and location all cost money. We recognize and deeply appreciate those who have supported us in creating a yearly event where the girls can gather together, laugh, make friends and head back to school prepared and ready to succeed.

We want to express our gratitude to all the volunteers and staff who were key in ensuring the success of this event. Your time and care is greatly appreciated.

Please take a moment to meet our wonderful volunteers, speakers, supporters and staff.
