Blazing a Trail to University

8 young women attending Hope University in Burundi Africa

💥8 Girls now attend Hope University

starting from three girls who joined last year, and adding 5 more who entered this February 2025. This marks the first time a group of girls from Mulenge have left their small village to receive higher education, breaking barriers and setting an example for future generations. It is the first time these girls have visited a big city, and they are excited for more education outside their village.

Coming from a war-torn region where education is often disrupted by conflict, these girls have overcome immense challenges to reach this point. Schools in Mulenge are frequently closed due to attacks, and many girls in their community are forced into early marriages, some becoming widows just months later.

These 5 young women entered Hope University this February! Also, meet Gikwerere an AGHF mentor.

Thank you to our AGHF mentor, Gikwerere, for his support and kindness in helping with this transition!💗

💨Due to ongoing wars,

the girls live in constant fear of losing their lives and the lives of their loved ones. Despite these obstacles, these young women persevered, completing high school successfully—an achievement that many in their region never get to experience.

AGHF has been instrumental in supporting these girls with scholarships through high school and now into university. Offering them a chance to build a future away from the violence and instability of their homeland.

Dr Grace F N and Beatrice in Africa

🏃🏽‍♀️Their journey follows in the footsteps of

Beatrice Nampundu, the first girl from Mulenge to receive a university scholarship from AGHF in 2023. Beatrice’s story is nothing short of remarkable—she traveled to Kenya, learned English in just six months despite coming from a French-speaking country, and joined Daystar University, one of Kenya’s leading institutions.

Now excelling in her studies in Community Development, Beatrice was recently recognized on the Dean’s List for her outstanding academic performance.

🔅 These stories are a testament to

AGHF’s continuing mission of empowering young women through education, and ensuring they have the opportunity to shape their futures. By providing access to university education, AGHF is not just transforming individual lives, but also paving the way for future generations. Girls from conflict-affected regions can rise above their circumstances, find hope, and have a lasting impact for good in their communities.
